Bus to the Beach! NW Point, a new bus line running from Portland to Clatsop County, is offering free transportation for 40 Spring Beach Cleanup volunteers in conjunction with the Sunset Empire Transportation District. The bus leaves from Union Station in Portland, will drop off in Seaside and Cannon Beach, and then return to Portland after the event. For more information contact Cliff Engel at 503-314-5585. :::::: Cannons Reappear After 161 Years ::::::

In September 1846 the U.S. Navy schooner Shark, built on the east coast in 1821, broke into pieces at the mouth of the Columbia River. A large section with three cannons eventually floated ashore in Arch Cape just south of Cannon Beach. One of those cannons was recovered years later and now resides at the Cannon Beach History Center. Today, after 161 years, two cannons, which must be the other two, came into view as the winter storms washed record amounts of sand away revealing them.
